We have been commissioned to install a range of environmental reef units that will provide new marine habitat at Hengistbury Head as part of the ambitious Hengistbury Head Long Groyne Project. This project is a part of a 17-year Beach Management Scheme, with the original 1930’s long groyne being replaced & upgraded between April – October 2024. Our shallow draft utility vessel Buffalo has been chartered by Bournemouth University’s Marine Archaeology team to help recover a number of unique artifacts recently discovered on the only known surviving wreck of an English Medieval commercial vessel, which sank off Studland Bay during the reign of Henry III. We have worked with the university’s archaeology team before and were thrilled to be asked to help with this historic project. Read More
We have a busy winter schedule once again, with our larger maintenance dredging vessels, including back hoe dredger ‘Doreen Dorward‘, and split hopper barges ,’Nab’ and ‘Needles’, working at several sites for International Marina Operators, Marina Developments Ltd. As in previous years we have been tasked with assisting the regular refit and docking work for the sandbanks chain ferry, the Bramble Bush Bay, operated by the Bournemouth Motor Road and Ferry Company. Every few years the ferry must be removed from its running chains for surveys, safety inspections and general upkeep. This year the 74m x 17m ferry has also been fitted with new prows. Read More
Jenkins Marine supported Lankelma by providing movement and towage support of the Sandpiper jackup vessel for geotechnical site investigation completed at Hengistbury Head, Dorset. The long groyne at Hengistbury Head was closed to the public for safety reasons following a detailed inspection of the structure using sonar and laser equipment in 2019. The structure was revealed to be in a very poor condition. Read More
January 2019 saw Jenkins Marine start another maintenance dredging project at Woolverstone Marina, on the River Orwell, near Ipswich. This isn't the first time Jenkins have Dredged here.
