JML Osprey Comes Home to Roost

Powerful Motor Tug ‘JML Osprey’ has been recently purchased to join the Jenkins Marine fleet. The vessel is a newer more powerful version of the 2509 Damen Shoalbuster, a more modern replacement for our former Tug “DMS Condor” which we recently sold and has since sailed away to her new owners in the Caribbean. Whilst we wish Condor well on her new adventures, this is part of our planned approach to continual fleet upgrades and improvement.

Damen Shoalbusters are versatile, multi-purpose vessels, designed to work in shallow, as well as deeper waters. JML Osprey is essentially the exact same model of 2509 Damen Shoalbuster Tug as DMS Condor, but much newer (2018 build), and more powerful, boasting an impressive 27t Bollard Pull!

JML Osprey also benefits from more crew accommodation for more comfortable operations, a larger more powerful 120tm Helia deck crane with a longer 18m reach. Also a 5t winch fitted to the crane, tugger winch, hydraulic tow pins and chain stoppers. The bow thruster is also more powerful and it carries increased fuel capacity alongside many other improvements.

JML Osprey was formerly positioned and working in South Africa, following an early period in the Middle East. We arranged heavy lift transport to deliver the tug back to the UK in early August 2026, where she has been dry docked for essential maintenance and surveys, and given a fresh lick of paint in the Company colours, and of course her new name. She is expected to be ready to work with new certification by the end of September 2026.

The established ‘JML’ prefix represents ‘Jenkins Marine Limited’. Based in Poole Harbour, South Coast UK, over recent years there has been much interest in a small flourishing population of breeding Osprey’s. Ospreys (Pandion haliaetus) are powerful and agile birds of prey, or raptors, with a large wingspan of up to 6 feet. Ospreys are unique among raptors for their almost exclusive diet of fish and their ability to dive feet-first into water to catch prey using their immensely strong talons!

Director Dan Jenkins said:

“I’m very excited to get this new addition to our fleet back in the UK and ready to work, and look forward to seeing JML Osprey spread her wings!”
