About this role:
Salary: £28 – £36,000 dependent upon experience
Hours: Full Time, 42.5 hours per week to include some shift work
Location: Based at Poole, Dorset with requirement to work away (project dependant)
We are looking for a reliable and conscientious individual, with a friendly and professional manner, to safely operate excavators for dredging, crawler crane for lifting, telehandler/forklift and other plant machinery either onboard our vessels or in the yard at our base in Poole.
Working closely with the shoreside support manager and Marine superintendent, you will assist planning, co-ordination and monitoring of the performance of projects.
When you’re not operating our crawler crane or excavator, you will assist with the loading and unloading of cargo, refuelling our vessels and undertaking assistance with other yard based projects and general maintenance of plant and equipment, ensuring that all plant & accessories in your charge are clean and tidy, well maintained and ready for use at a moment’s notice.
You may be required to work on board a vessel, (in harbours and occasionally at sea) depending on the needs of the project, on a rotating 7-day shift pattern. Normal shifts are daytime only, but operational circumstances may also require you to work overnight or tidal shifts. Projects and shift working times are planned well in advance. It should be expected that some projects will require you to work away from home for periods of time.
When working locally, your normal hours will be 08:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday, with the opportunity to do overtime depending on the business need.
About you:
You will be proficient in planning and executing dredging projects with marine experience, and someone who takes pride in delivering great customer service and keeping their plant machinery ship shape. You will be a great team worker and an excellent communicator, who enjoys overcoming the challenges associated with delivering results in this dynamic environment.
However, you will also need to be self-motivated and pro-active in your approach to tasks, able to work independently when needed. The position requires an individual who is able to think on their feet whilst always keeping the contract delivery and health and safety requirements at the forefront of their mind.
Qualifications & Accreditations Required
Essential
- Trained/experienced tracked excavator operator (>10t), Holds a valid CPCS (Category A59) certification, or equivalent
- Trained/experienced crawler crane (>10t) operator, Holds a valid CPCS (Category A02+A66d) certification, or equivalent
- Trained/experienced operator for wheeled telescopic handler, Holds a valid CPCS (Category A17) or equivalent.
- Clean UK driving licence
- Holds a valid ENG1 seafarer’s medical certificate without any restrictions/qualifications (or obtainable)
Desirable
- Trained/experienced marine knuckle boom crane operator, Holds a valid NPORS (Category N014) certification
- Trained/experienced slinger/signaller, CPCS (Category A40) or equivalent(s)
- Trained/experienced Appointed Person – Lifting Operations, Holds a valid CPCS (Category A61/62) card, or equivalent
- Recently completed a personal survival techniques course (STCW Code – Table A-VI/1-1)
Knowledge & Experience Required
Essential
- Minimum 3yrs active involvement in backhoe dredging projects and other forms of marine based plant operation, holding essential qualifications
- Minimum 3yrs active involvement in lifting operations.
- Computer literate; able to use MS Office and other web applications to complete electronic aspects of company processes
Desirable
- Familiarity with operation, maintenance and basic inspection of a variety of machinery, hydraulic and/or electrical systems typically found on mobile industrial plant (in particular excavators and crawler cranes)
- Experience of involvement with a variety of other marine civil engineering projects (e.g. coastal defence, sheet/tubular piling, demolition)

We are looking for a reliable and conscientious individual, with a friendly and professional manner, to serve onboard assigned vessels. Ultimately, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our vessels and equipment. There will be plenty of variety in the duties you will be required to perform; both on and off of the vessel. The role requires someone who is adaptable, ready to perform cleaning, maintenance and refuelling of vessels and equipment, record-keeping and assisting with the loading and unloading of cargo and operation of deck equipment, in between giving crew briefings and passage planning.
When working on board a vessel at sea, you will work as either a Master or Officer of the watch, depending on the needs of the project and your experience, working up to 7-days per week. Normal shifts are daytime only, but operational circumstances may also require you to work overnight or tidal shifts as well. However, all work is planned well in advance. It should also be expected that some projects will require you to work away from home for periods of time.

- Holds a valid RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate, or RYA/MCA Powerboat Advanced Certificate with commercial endorsement.
- Holds current valid STCW basic safety training courses, completed within last 5 years.
- Valid ENG1 seafarers Medical certificate with no restrictions
- Clean UK driving licence
Desirable
- Holds a valid STCW Master Certificate of Competency for code vessels of ≤200GT, MCA Tier 1, Level 2 Boatmasters Licence, and/or RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean Certificate with commercial endorsement.
- Holds a valid Able Seafarer Engine Certificate, STCW A-III/5 or has completed an MCA Approved Engine Course
- General Towage endorsement for Master’s qualification
- Trained/experienced marine knuckle boom crane operator certification, Holds a valid NPORS (Category N014), or equivalent(s).
