Jenkins Marine Tug 'Handfast' and deck cargo barge 'JML 35' are currently delivering Rock to Selsey Bill for Marine Civil Engineering Contractors 'Earlcoate'.
Approximately 8,000t of Granite Rock armour is needed for coastal defence works on the beach area West of Selsey Bill. A large caravan park requires the defences to protect the park from storm conditions.
The rock has been delivered by sea to Southampton, and Jenkins Marine have been asked to provide barges and tugs to deliver and offload the 5 - 8t rocks on to the beach.
Thankfully 400t capacity deck cargo barge JML 35 (35m x 10m) was already fitted with protective matting, and was ready to go to work! Earlcoate delivered a 45t excavator to Jenkins Marine Yard in Poole, where it was loaded, prior to towage to Southampton and Jenkins Marine are providing an experienced excavator operator (Dave Lamb) to operate the excavator on the deck of the JML35 during loading and offloading of the rock from the barge on to the beach.
Meanwhile Jenkins larger 1,300t capacity deck cargo barge 'JML50' (50m x 14m) has been fully decked out with protective matting (See images above) ready to provide a larger capacity delivery capability over the final stages of the project.
The twin screw 15t bollard pull Tug 'Handfast', and barge 'JML35' have been working 24hrs a day, and achieving an impressive two-load and dump cycles per day between Southampton docks and Selsey Bill!
